It doesn't get better than this - Michel with this magnificent brown trout
You would have to say that Yves and Michel, two French fly fishermen, are fish magnets!
I had the pleasure of guiding these gentlemen over 11 days starting a week after the season opening in November. They, along with their friend Serge, had returned to New Zealand after another fishing trip 3 years previous.
The conditions were far from ideal with cloud and wind to deal with although we did get a handful of days which were nice and sunny and not too windy. The end result was extremely good - approximately 70 trout landed, all 3lb plus with a few getting off and surprisingly only one break off. In fact, I can't recall having this sort of success in such conditions in a very long time. One day we spotted 8 trout and every single one ended up in the net!
Serge was fishing on his own (with some advice from yours truly) so at the end of the day over a cold beer the day's fishing was discussed and photos compared.
All good things come to an end however and the three happy anglers wearily made their way back to Christchurch with firm intentions of returning the season after next.

Il faut croire que les truites sont attirées par Yves et Michel à juger par la réussite de ces deux pêcheurs français! Arrivé une semaine après l'ouverture au mois de novembre accompagné de Serge, leur copain et pêcheur également, pour un séjour de 15 jours (dont 11 jours de pêche) les conditions atmosphériques étaient pourtant pas au "top". Nous avons vu le soleil certains jours mais pas très souvent.
Pour la pêche à vue c'est beaucoup plus compliqué quand c'est nuageux et presque impossible quand le vent se mêle. Les étoiles se sont alignés pour nous puisque chaque jour nous avons trouvé suffisamment de truites pour nous occuper. J'ai compté, qu'au total, Michel et Yves ont mis 70 (de 3lb et plus) au sec sans compter quelques décrochées et une seule casse ce qui est en lui même un exploit. Il y avait un jour où nous avons repéré 8 truites et elles sont toutes finies dans l'épuisette! Je n'ai pas de souvenir du pareil réussite 100% dans toutes mes années (presque 30) de guidage.......
Serge, quant à lui, s'est débrouillé fort bien tout seul (avec quelques conseilles de ma part tout de même) et au retour à la maison chaque soir autour d'un verre, les trois copains raconté le déroulement de leur journée avec comparaison des photos bien entendu!
